Epic Reading Fail. Times Three.

Yesterday was a day full of reading fails for AJ and I.
So on to the first fail. Last night, AJ and I were making dinner— boxed Jambalaya to be exact (an awesome cheap dinner by the way). I had cooked up the ground turkey to go with it, so AJ was just going to finish up the rice part. It was about 20 minutes, that an odd odor began to fill our noses. AJ raced to the stove, where he discovered that all the water for the rice mixture had evaporated about 15 minutes prior, causing our rice to burn beyond a salvageable point.
Why did this happen you ask? Well, poor AJ misread the directions, and instead of reading “turn the heat down to the low setting,” he read “turn the heat lower.” Which is different, because otherwise out rice wouldn’t have turned mostly black. The result? We ended up running to the store to get taco making materials so we could still use the ground meat we cooked up.
Now reading fail numero dos.
After our dinner fiasco we had an appointment at 7:30, with a coordinator. I was prepared and downloaded the directions from the email she had sent me, and we raced out the door. We some how magically got to her home office at 7:30 on the nose, only making one wrong turn.
But when we got there, she seemed to still be with another client, so we waited outside her front door for her to finish up. Two rings of her doorbell later, and at least 10 minutes of patient waiting, she still did not come to greet us. At this point, I was kind of annoyed, as was AJ. I figured (a little too late) that to be on the safe side, I would double check the email she sent me about our appointment. Lo and behold, I saw that she booked our appointment on the 24th, not the 17th as I had first mentioned. Needless to say, AJ and I quickly, and very silently skidattled, so she wouldn’t see, or hear us.
As if those two instances weren’t enough to encourage me to read things more carefully, I failed again this morning by misreading my work schedule, and therefore arrived to work at 9 am, two and a half hours earlier than I needed to be. Luckily, my manager let me stay, and instead just leave a little early, so that I didn’t have drive all the way home, only to come back an hour later. But, because of this third fail, I missed out on some much needed sleep this morning.
And there you have it. I hope you learned our lessons, or at least enjoyed my stories. But seriously guys, reading is a serious matter, and is more important than you know. If you don’t read enough, fails like these could happen to you… bom, bom, BOM. (That was my climactic sound effect.)
